Building a wood-fired pizza oven isn’t just about the final result, it’s about the process behind it. From the first enquiry through to the moment the fire is lit, every step plays a role in creating an oven that performs, lasts, and fits seamlessly into your space.
At Brisbane Pizza Ovens, we’ve refined our process to make it straightforward, transparent, and tailored to each client. Here’s what goes into bringing your oven to life.
Step 1: The Initial Enquiry
Every project starts with a conversation.
Whether you reach out via Instagram, email, or through our website, we begin with a brief discussion to understand what you’re looking for:
Are you after a pre-built mobile oven or a custom-built feature?
What’s your space like?
How do you plan to use your oven, occasional pizza nights or full outdoor cooking?
From here, we can often provide a ballpark quote based on your needs.
Step 2: Site Visit (For Custom Builds)
If your project is more tailored or site specific, we’ll organise a site visit.
This is where we:
Take accurate measurements
Assess access, levels, and layout
Discuss finishes, materials, and design in more detail
Consider practical elements like placement, flow, and integration with existing landscaping
This step ensures your oven isn’t just built, it’s built right for your space.
Step 3: Planning, Materials & Scheduling
Once everything is confirmed, we move into planning.
Materials are ordered and prepared
Build details are finalised
A construction date is locked in
This stage is key to keeping everything running smoothly and ensuring timelines are met, especially in the busier periods.
Step 4: The Build
This is where the transformation happens.
Depending on your project, this may include:
Excavation and footings (if required)
Blockwork or steel frame base construction
Installation of the oven (precast or brick)
Insulation, rendering, and finishes
Tiling, cladding, and final detailing
Every stage is completed with a focus on precision, durability, and finish, because a pizza oven isn’t just functional, it’s a feature.
Step 5: Curing & First Fire
Before your oven is ready to cook, it needs to be properly cured as per manufacturers advice.
This gradual heating process:
Removes residual moisture
Protects the structure
Ensures long-term performance
Once cured, your oven is ready, and that first fire is always a moment.
The End Result: More Than Just an Oven
By the time your project is complete, what you have isn’t just a pizza oven, it’s a space.
A place for:
Friday night pizza and games with the kids
Long lunches with friends
A weekend of baking
Christmas gatherings around the fire
It becomes part of your home, and over time, part of your routine.
